Study With Us

Undergraduate study

The University of Portsmouth offers a range of undergraduate courses in mathematics and physics. Notably these include:

  • BSc Physics
  • MPhys Applied Physics
  • BSc Physics, Astrophysics and Cosmology
  • MPhys Physics, Astrophysics and Cosmology
  • BSc Mathematics

Applied Physics undergraduates

We also offer summer placements to students from year 10 to undergraduate, details of which can be found here.

The University of Portsmouth has achieved a prestigious ‘Gold’ rating in the Teaching Excellence Framework (TEF) – one of only four Gold-rated universities in the south east.

Postgraduate study

ICG First Year PhD Students 2019We also offer PhDs at the Institute. Click here for details of our 2020 PhD studentships.

We welcome applications from all qualified applicants, but applications are particularly encouraged from traditionally under-represented groups in science. The University of Portsmouth holds an Athena SWAN bronze award and is an Institute of Physics Project Juno Supporter; these projects show a commitment to introduce organisational and cultural practices that promote gender equality in science and create a better working environment for men and women.
