I wrote a paper with Marek (and Nils Pranab and Sebatiano) in the summer of 1997, on the w-mode perturbations of ultra-compact stars seen from the “optical geometry” point of view. Also in the summer of 1997 I co-authored the last of three papers on non-linear relativistic perturbation theory and its application to cosmology. The paper with Marek triggered my interest in perturbations of stars, the papers on relativistic perturbation theory were part of a more general interests on how to deal with non-linearities in an approximate manner in relativity.
In this talk I will describe some developments that followed and some recent applications in cosmology.
